Grad School Leads to Longer Life?
The NY Times today had an article today about some new findings on the relationship between education and lifespan. This paper estimates that each additional year of education increases lifespan by as much as 1.7 years and shows interesting evidence that the relationship is causal.
Those long years in grad school could pay off in more ways than you think.

Then it seems that the only rational course would be to stay in grad school forever.
I wonder if education only staves off death or if one can duck out on that pesky aging thing, too?

Ha! I think some of our colleagues over in the humanities are running the experiment. Poke around an English department and see if those 40-year-old TAs are looking spry...

I am sure there is a joke in there somewhere about it not actually being longer, it just seems that way.
